What We Do
Problem
Refugee-led organizations and leaders face chronic burnout, limited NGO management skills, severe funding gaps, and fragmented coordination, undermining their impact and sustainability.
Capacity sharing
We will provide targeted capacity-sharing and mentorship for refugee leaders in NGO management, strategic planning, and resource mobilization.
Resource Mobilisation
Research
We will enable the creation of coordination and research platforms to enable collaboration, evidence-based advocacy, and data-driven programming across refugeeled initiatives.
Our Themes
Capacity Sharing and Research
RECAN will run research on
the needs or RLOs and conduct capacity-sharing programs tailored to refugee leaders, focusing on NGO management, fundraising, and strategic planning etc.
Resource Mobilisation and Development
RECAN will support the
development of resource
mobilisation strategies, flexible, multi-year funding mechanisms that prioritize refugee-led initiatives and reduce administrative burdens
Where We Are
RECAN in Uganda currently support refugee led organisations in Kyaka II for the pilot project before expanding to other refugee led organisations in other settlements and in other districts. Kyaka II was selected due to the level of need and the expression of interest from the refugee leaders in the settlement towards RECAN. Kyaka II has over 136,129 refugees and asylum seekers as per UNHCR and OPM July updates on the refugee population in Uganda.
RECAN was able to reach 32 refugee led organisations in the settlement in the recently concluded needs assessment for RLOs in the settlement. RECAN is also found and operates in Kakuma Kenya with the refugee led organisations in Kakuma.
